Patch Fix Keyboard Rfk Center
Hi thereI have recently updated to windows 10 and all has been working fine.I then went to turn on my computer and my mouse and keyboard have stopped working with 'USB device not recognised' message coming up. Both my mouse and keyboard have stopped working in all USB ports at the back and also at the front. I have tried othermouse and keyboard from other computers and confirmed that all devices are working correctly.I am unable to access anything from my desktop like control panel to access device manager. I have no control of my computer to access anything. Please help.
Hi RichH67Thanks for getting back to me on this thread. I believe the Support Engineer mis-understood my issue or perhaps I didn't explain it too well.My issue was that when my computer booted up NO keyboard or mouse would work and they all seemed to turn off.
Even spare keyboards and mouse would not work which definetley work on other computers. This rendered me incapable of using ANY part of my computerto navigate to control panel etc. So in effect all I could do was turn on the computer and push the ON/OFF button on the tower it's self to power off. When I accessed the BIOS menu I was able to navigate this using my keyboard so I figured that it must have been something to do with my USB hub or drivers.
Now both my keyboard and mouse were pluged directly into the back of the computer on the onboardUSB slots so it wasn't a faulty external USB hub.SOLVEDAfter many start ups and turnings off decided once the computer had booted up to desktop to push and hold the power button for 5 seconds. In doing this I then turned the computer back on and it seemed to take slightly longer to boot up than the previoustimes when the keyboard and mouse were not working. Upon the desktop appearing my keyboard and mouse were back up and working. I'm figuring that in re-starting the computer in this way (Instead of just pushing ON/OFF button once) I forced the computer torun or install all the drivers including the drivers for the onboard USB slots.
Hopefully this may just be the case for you.ThanksColin. Colin,Thanks for the tip. I'm glad it worked for you. Unfortunately, it's not working for me. Even when I boot into safe mode with command prompt, my keyboard and mouse are unresponsive. I've also tried booting into Linux with a disk I used to use long, long, ago, when I was a sysadmin at a Fortune 100 company and needed occasionally to get into where people had gotten and shouldn't have. That disk is unable to mount the partition, so I'm unable to reset the password.
The password issue is that I'm trying to remote into thecomputer so the keyboard from my SP3 will work, but the person whose computer I'm working on has no password, and the remote program I'm trying to use (Dameware) doesn't allow you to connect without a password. Windows Remote Desktop doesn't work, sincethe 'dead' PC doesn't have it configured to allow. Dameware (I used that when I worked at the old place, too) doesn't need that permission. Somehow it just works, except for this no password issue that I was previously unaware of.So I'm stuck.
The keyboard and mouse work when in bios, and even in the linux distro that I tried for password change, but Windows is hosed bad enough that I can't do a thing.I've found other suggestions online that say to use a ps/2 mouse and keyboard, but as hard as it is to believe, I can't find a single one of either of these devices in my house full of tech junk. I must have given away the last of the ps/2 varieties withthe last PC I sold.:/ So I've got a few people looking to see if they can find one in their houses full of tech junk. Computers can provide very fast, very accurate wrong answers. Oh, and another thing - the only way that I seem to be able to get into the safe mode (or to the menus to get to there) is to interrupt a startup by pulling power, which then leads to the 'Preparing Automatic Repair', where I can get to the advanced options.F8 doesn't work like it used to with prior versions.Microsoft, you need to fix this. First, you need to make F8 work to get into safe mode options, and second, you need to make safe mode work with a USB mouse and keyboard even when USB drivers are hosed.
There is no excuse for a keyboard that works in bios, and a mouse/keyboard working in the menus that allow you to choose safe mode, and then when you get there they don't work. That is just plain unacceptable. Computers can provide very fast, very accurate wrong answers.
When updating from 10586 to 14295, I get the same problem for the third time, no keyboard and mouse, only option to completely reinstall!Due to some software that I run, I have had to set the updates to devices to disabled through the Group Policy editor. That way I can run al older version of Nvidia drivers for the GTX 480.Can someone at Microsoft please reproduce this in a test environment and fix the problem? I have had to totally rebuild this PC several times and there in no reason a person should not be able to use Group Policies to disable driver updates and have theseproblems every time a new build is installed.I also had this system killing bug after I tied to go into the trouble shooting after booting from the Window 10 disc, that is a known problem as described on this page:issues:. After choosing “Reset This PC” under Settings Update & Security Recovery – your PC will be in a unusable state. There is no workaround if your PC gets into this state and you will need to reinstall Windows. So there was nothing I could do but start from step 1 of the install process!I do not understand how these bugs can make it this far into the testing process. Please fix the problem. No one should have to completely rebuild their PC every time a new build is sent down, and I cannot stop it, I have to install it at some point. Please test and fix this, should all that needs to be done to enable device driver updates during the install process, then disable it again after the upgrade is completely finished.
Also I have no idea if the upgrade will have a problem until after it hasalready occurred, and there is no way to fix it! Totally a horrendous user experience. Please fix it! OK,So I am having the same problem.System boots - I get errorBad system config infoSystem reboots into Automatic recovery, cannot use keyboard or mouse.I have tried all the unplug / replug, system image, etc.System image boots,I get a screen that says:It looks like you started an upgrade and booted from installation media.
If you want to continue with the upgrade, remove the media from your PC and click YES.
